Israel and Iran have had a tense relationship for decades, which has periodically escalated into direct and political conflict. In recent years, these tensions have increased as Israel has stepped up military action against Hezbollah and Hamas. These actions have included assassinations of Iranian military officials and allied community leaders, strengthening Iran’s position. Let’s know all the events between the war between Israel and Iran
Iran’s missile attack: An unprecedented move
On October 1, 2024, Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel in what it called “Operation True Promise II.” The attack was carried out in response to the assassination of Islamic State leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniya. Iran claimed to have destroyed Israeli military missiles, while Israel said most of its defense system’s missiles had been destroyed.
Who launched the attack – who is responsible?
Some experts believe that the root of this entire dispute is Israel’s air strikes on Iran-backed military bases in Syria and Lebanon. This action was not only to weaken regional factions, but it was part of Israel’s policy of “pre-emptive response”. Iran called it a violation of its sovereignty and warned of retaliation.
Israel’s response: “Whoever attacks us, we will respond”.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Iran’s attack a “big mistake” and said that Iran will have to pay the price for it. He made it clear that Israel can go to any extent to protect its citizens. Israel’s Minister of Defence Yoav Galant also warned Iran that its attack will be responded to harshly.
Israel’s defense system: Iron Dome and Arrow system performed brilliantly
Defense system of Israel, especially “Iron Dome” and “Arrow 3”, performed brilliantly in this missile attack by Iran. According to reports, about 90% of the missiles were destroyed in the air. This shows how advanced and effective Israel’s technical preparation is.
Who are Hezbollah and Hamas?
Hamas: Main leaders of the Palestinian Islamic terrorist organization
- A Palestinian Islamic terrorist organization.
- Mainly active in the Gaza Strip.
- Its aim is to destroy Israel and establish Islamic rule in Palestine.
- Iran supports it financially and militarily.
Hezbollah: Main leaders of the Islamic terrorist organization
- A Shia Islamic terrorist organization active in Lebanon.
- It also receives full support from Iran – training, weapons, money.
- It also attacks Israel and creates conflicts on the Lebanon-Israel border.
Killing of Hizb leaders: Reasons?
Hamas leaders: are killed by Israel because Hamas has a stable structure and terrorist attacks on Israel. Many veteran Hamas leaders have broken the plans of these clerics from Gaza and carried them out. Israel’s policy is to kill its leaders by force so that the military capability and leadership of the organization is weakened. For this, it resorts to airstrikes and covert operations.
Hizb leaders: also remain hostile towards Israel because this organization attacks Israel from Lebanon and directly attacks Iran. Many commanders of Hizb are also active in Syria, where Israel has repeatedly killed them in airstrikes. ISOC has certified that eliminating the top leaders of Hizb will lead to attacks by the organization and reduce its strength.
What is the main reason for hostility between Iran and Israel?
The hostility between Iran and Israel is based on religious, political and iconic personalities. Main reasons:
• Religious differences: Israel is a Jewish nation, while Iran is a Shia country. There are serious religious and divine differences between the two.
• Palestine Classification: Iran openly supports Hamas and the Palestinian cause, while Israel sees Iran’s influence over Palestinians and its regional expansion as a threat.
• Truth Conflict: Both nations are vying for dominance in the Middle East.
• Iran’s Nuclear Program: Israel fears Iran gaining nuclear weapons could threaten its security and has repeatedly issued nuclear threats in response.
• Security and spy network: Both Israel and Iran countries keep conducting covert operations and cyber attacks against each other (e.g. Stuxnet virus, Mojad spy, etc.).
Impact on civilians: artists, doctors and migration
Civilians have suffered the most in this entire conflict. In Israel, people who are attacked have taken refuge in banks, schools and hospitals are closed. There is an atmosphere of fear in many cities of Iran as well. The United Nations says that about 5 lakh people have fled from their homes due to this conflict.
Is there a possibility of nuclear war?
At the moment, the possibility of a direct nuclear war is low, but it cannot be completely ruled out either. Tensions are rising between Iran and Israel and if this conflict gets out of control, especially when nuclear-armed countries like the US, Russia or China also get directly involved in it, the situation can take a dangerous turn. However, all the big countries consider nuclear weapons as the last option, as its consequences will be devastating for the whole world.
Is the Third World War starting?
The Third World War has not officially started yet, but its signs and conditions are definitely being created. The Ukraine-Russia war, the Taiwan-China conflict and now the Iran-Israel conflict – all these are pitting global powers on different fronts. If all these conflicts get interlinked and the US, Russia, China, NATO and other countries get directly involved in it, then it can become a situation of world war.
Which countries are being affected by this?
1. Middle East countries (Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen) – are vulnerable to direct military confrontation.
2. Israel and Iran – are the main warring parties and are suffering heavy losses of life and property.
3. US and Western countries – have put their armies on alert in support of Israel.
4. Russia and China – are indirectly standing in support of Iran, hence geopolitical tensions are rising.
5. India – may be affected through crude oil prices, safety of citizens and trade instability.
6. European countries – are under pressure due to refugee crisis, energy crisis and security fears.
International response: Which country said what?
The international response to the Iran-Israel conflict has been intense and varied. Major countries and organisations in the world have either supported one side, or appealed for a ceasefire. Below are the responses of major countries and organisations:
1. America:
Stands fully with Israel. President Joe Biden said that “America is committed to the security of Israel.” US Navy and Air Force units have been put on alert.
2. Russia:
Appealed to calm the tension.Did not openly support any one side, but indirectly sympathized with Iran. Russia said that all parties should exercise restraint for regional stability.
3. China:
Supported restraint and dialogue. China asked both countries to find a solution through dialogue and appealed for a ceasefire.
4. European Union (EU):
Stands in support of Israel, but is also demanding an investigation into human rights violations. Many European countries like Germany and France have condemned the actions of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran.
5. India:
Has taken a balanced stance. The Ministry of External Affairs said India “appeals to all parties to exercise restraint and stop the violence”. India issued advisories for the safety of its citizens.
6. Arab countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar):
Most countries have made indirect statements in support of Iran. Saudi Arabia called for dialogue and a peaceful solution. Qatar criticized the Israeli attacks and reiterated its support for the Palestinians.
7. United Nations (UN):
The Secretary-General said that “the situation is at a very dangerous juncture”. An immediate ceasefire and dialogue were appealed to all parties. Emphasis was laid on ensuring the safety of civilians.
Future strategy: What could be the possible steps?
• Iran’s nuclear sites could be targeted in a possible retaliation from Israel.
• Iran could increase cross-border attacks through Hezbollah and Hamas.
• The US is increasing its naval fleet in the region, which could further increase tensions.
The world is at a Critical Juncture
The Iran-Israel conflict is now a global threat, intensified by the roles of Hamas, Hezbollah, the US, Russia, and China. While nuclear war seems unlikely for now, lack of diplomacy could lead to disaster. It’s crucial to stay informed and advocate for peace.
