He was arrested in 2002 at a roofing business in Greensboro, where he armed himself with an automatic rifle; he was charged with “possession of a weapon of mass destruction” during the incident.

Then in 2003, he was convicted of driving without a license, hit and run, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Ryan pleaded guilty to possession of stolen goods in 2010.

Overall, he had numerous misdemeanor convictions between 1997 and 2010, including speeding, bad checks, license relocations, and more.

In 2018, Ryan Wesley Routh left North Carolina and moved to the Kaʻaʻawa area of Hawaii. There he ran a small construction business with his son called Camp Box Honolulu, a portable storage facility that brought in $3,000 a month. His trainer-like image was a mixed bag from his former stateside.

Attitudes and Activities towards Ukraine

Ryan Wesley Routh tried to play a fairly active role during the Ukraine war:

He visited Kyiv in 2022, expressing a desire to join the Ukrainian army, but was unable to directly participate in the war due to his age (around 56-57) and lack of military experience.

Routh had made a banner which stated that this emotional rally was a protest against Russia, corruption and evil, so that future generations remain safe.

Initially favored Trump (2016), but around 2020 he began to strongly object to Trump (“I will be glad when you’re gone.”).

He became an Independent in 2012 and voted in the Democratic primary (in North Carolina in 2024) in subsequent years, according to cbsnews.com.

Ryan made $1–$25 donations through ActBlue in 2019–20, totaling nearly $140.
