Pune Indrayani Bridge Collapsed: 4 People Died, More Than 30 Injured

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, a very tragic accident occurred in the Maval tehsil of Pune district, Maharashtra. The Indrayani bridge collapsed suddenly, causing panic and devastation in the area. This old iron bridge, built over the Indrayani River near Kundmala village, gave way while many people were crossing it. How did the accident happen?

This bridge was an old iron bridge built on the Indrayani river. According to the local people, this bridge was in a dilapidated condition for many years and there was a demand for its repair many times.

On Sunday, when people were crossing the bridge, suddenly this bridge collapsed. Many people fell into the river below and some were buried under the debris of the bridge. It was raining at the time of the accident and the water level of the river was also higher than normal.

Relief and rescue operations

As soon as the information about the incident was received, teams of police, fire brigade, and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) immediately reached the spot. Rescue operations were carried out swiftly. People were pulled out of the river with the help of boats and divers.

About two more bodies were recovered from the debris of the bridge, taking the death toll to 4. At the same time, the injured were admitted to nearby hospitals.

Chief Minister’s said

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the incident by posting on social media. He wrote:

“I am deeply saddened by the bridge accident on the Indrayani river near Kundamala village in Maval tehsil of Pune. My deepest condolences to the affected families in this sad time.”

The Chief Minister also said that:

– An assistance amount of ₹ 5 lakh will be given to the families of each deceased.

– The government will bear the cost of treatment of all the injured.

We are in constant touch with the administration and orders for investigation have been given.

Was the condition of the bridge bad before?

Local people say that this bridge was very old and weak. Many times the villagers had told the administration that the condition of the bridge is deteriorating day by day. People had also demanded its repair or construction of a new bridge, but no one took their words seriously.

If this bridge had been inspected, repaired or closed on time, could these lives have been saved?

There is deep grief and anger in the village and surrounding areas after the accident. People say that if the government and officials had taken action in time, this incident could have been avoided.

Some villagers expressed grief and said:

2. Inspection of all old and weak bridges: Now the time has come to immediately inspect all the old or dilapidated bridges in the state. If any bridge is not safe, then it should be repaired or closed.

3. Listening to the voice of the public: Local people often tell the administration about the problems, but their words are ignored. Now the administration should listen to the public seriously and put their safety first.

4. Planning for the future: The government must make a clear and strong plan to prevent such accidents which includes structural safety, regular inspections, and emergency arrangements.
