Fatehpur Maqbara, Mosque or Temple: A big controversy has suddenly erupted over the 200-year-old tomb of Nawab Abdul Samad located in Abunagar area of Sadar Kotwali in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Hindu organizations claim that it is not a tomb but an ancient temple of Thakurji (Lord Krishna), while the Muslim side is calling it a historical tomb.
This dispute escalated to violence, stone pelting, saffron flag hoisting, road blockade and police action. Let’s know the whole truth?
How did the dispute start?
The tomb of Nawab Abdul Samad is present in an Idgah complex in Abunagar area of Fatehpur city. According to locals, it is a nearly 200-year-old structure.
Four days ago, the Math Mandir Sangharsh Samiti and several Hindu organisations had submitted a memorandum to District Magistrate Ravindra Singh, claiming that the place was actually a Thakurji temple that had been occupied for a long time. The memorandum demanded that the place be “cleaned up” and Janmashtami be organised on August 11.
11 August morning: Crowd gathered at Fatehpur Maqbara and broke barricades

Around 10 am on Monday, around 2,000 people belonging to Bajrang Dal, Hindu Mahasabha and other Hindu organisations reached the Samadhi Sthal located in the Idgah premises. The police had already put up barricades, but the mob broke the barricades with sticks and entered inside.
Puja and hoisting of saffron flag
After reaching inside, many people, including State Vice President of Hindu Mahasabha, Manoj Trivedi, started performing puja inside the Samadhi Sthal.
During this, some youths climbed on the roof of the Samadhi Sthal and hoisted a saffron flag. Videos of this incident went viral on social media.
violence and stone pelting
As soon as the news of hoisting of saffron flag and worship at the shrine spread, around 1,500 people from the Muslim community also reached there. Both the sides came face to face and stone pelting started.
Seeing the situation deteriorating, the police lathicharged the crowd and dispersed it. The situation became so tense that forces from 10 police stations had to be called on the spot.
Road blockade and recitation of Hanuman Chalisa
After being chased away from the protest site, hundreds of activists of the Hindu organisation reached Dak Bungalow crossing, about 500 metres away.
They blocked the road and sat down and started reciting Hanuman Chalisa. This affected the traffic in the city and the atmosphere became more tense.
Big action by administration and police

ADG Prayagraj Sanjeev Gupta and later ADG Ramit Sharma, IG, Commissioner, DM and SSP reached the spot.
Flag marches were conducted in sensitive areas and drone surveillance was started.
ASP level officers of 6 districts (Chitrakoot, Banda, Hamirpur, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Kanpur Dehat) were sent to Fatehpur.
Police registered a case against 10 named and 150 unidentified people.
Sections: Sections 190, 191(2), 191(3), 196, 301 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), Prevention of Property Damage Act and 7 CLA Act.
Five special teams were formed for the arrest and raids are continuing.
